PLUS RX WEARERS TO BENEFIT FROM OPTIMA’S BIREFRINGENCE-FREE POLYCARBONATE LENS TECHNOLOGY
RESOLUTION®, With Already the Broadest Range of Any Polycarbonate, Extends its Offerings with an Aspheric Semi-finished for Plus Powers

Stratford, Conn. (October 15, 2003) – Optima continues to gain market share with the undeniable advantages of its birefringence-free polycarbonate lenses, RESOLUTION®. Seeing is believing as lens wearers who have made the switch experience distortion-free optics with unparalleled accuracy and clarity. Drilling is believing, as labs are discovering that RESOLUTION’s material integrity makes the lenses superb for drilling and stylish three-piece drill mounts. Lens cracking is eliminated and the edges can be polished for outstanding results. This uptrend in market share is sure to continue with Optima’s introduction of semi-finished plus lenses that deliver the same optical, cost and processing advantages as its flagship RESOLUTION minus lenses. “Now patients wearing plus prescriptions can have the same benefits of RESOLUTION, our birefringence-free polycarbonate lenses,” says Nicholas Niejelow, president and CEO of Optima Inc. “The optics are outstanding and by adding an aspheric design to the plus powers, the cosmetic advantages are dramatic.”

Optima holds exclusive patents to its unique manufacturing process, which uses ECM-9™ (Extrusion Compression Manufacturing) to produce its birefringence-free polycarbonate lenses, the only such lenses on the market. This same process has been adapted to produce its new semi-finished plus lens line. By eliminating birefringence in the lens material, power accuracy is assured and the wearer experiences high resolution throughout the entire lens area. Optima has further enhanced the optics in its new semi-finished lens line by adding an aspheric curve to the front of the lens. It is a proven lens design that makes the wearer’s vision much more true to scale and eliminates distortion around the edges. The aspheric design also results in a flatter lens. The flatter lens makes the wearer’s eyes more normal in size and eliminates the “bug eye” look, a problem which has plagued plus wearers. The result is a more flattering look and a lighter lens. By flattening the lens it also reduces lens mass, which makes the lens more comfortable for the wearer.

RESOLUTION semi-finished lenses will be available in four base curves; +5.50, +6.50, +7.50 and +9.00, to accommodate powers from plano to +8.00. The lenses come with Tantium™, a scratch resistant non-tintable coating. Optima’s Tantium has received a Bayer rating of 5.43, one of the highest in the industry. Patients can be assured that durability will be extraordinary with this lens, and Optima is offering a full two-year guarantee to back up it up.

“ With RESOLUTION, semi-finished plus lens wearers get a great lens value,” says Niejelow. “Patients get the optics of a 1.60 at one third the price and they get superior impact protection. It’s a winning combination and the reason why RESOLUTION is quickly gaining market share. Labs know it is a great value.”
