All Polycarbonate Lenses Are Not the Same

It is an undisputed fact that while polycarbonate lenses have provided a degree of safety unmatched by any other lens material, it has come at a huge price, poor optics. The poor optics of polycarbonate has been attributed to the material itself. This, common belief has now been disproved.

Independent lab tests have provided conclusive data that all polycarbonate lenses which are made with injection molded technology exhibit extreme birefringence — and large areas of resolution loss and significant power variations throughout the lens. Optima's RESOLUTION lenses, however, use new technology with a patented process that revolutionizes polycarbonate lenses. RESOLUTION lenses are the first and only polycarbonate lenses manufactured that use Extrusion Compression Molding technology (ECM-9®). It eliminates the material stress (birefringence) caused by old injection molding processes and produces a lens that has the optical qualities near that of glass.
